Cancun firemen find kittens during cooling inspection of mechanical repair shop fire

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen responding to a garage fire Thursday afternoon rescued four kittens in the process. Firemen were sent to a mechanical shop in SM 96 where residents reported the inside of the building was on fire.

Once at the scene, firemen began the task of extinguishing flames inside. Once the fire was out, firemen started a routine inspection, ensuring all flames had been extinguished.

In the review process, they located four new-born kittens. The small cats were soaked in the fire-extinguishing process but found in good condition otherwise.

Firemen found the kittens after the fire was put out February 19, 2026.

They were removed from the mechanic shop and handed over to the Municipal Animal Protection Department of Cancun where they are being cared for.

“Firefighters from the Cancun Fire Department responded to a fire at an auto repair shop located in Region 96. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle engulfed in flames inside the building.

“Firefighters initiated combined attack maneuvers, successfully extinguishing the fire and cooling the affected area. During the inspection and debris removal, amidst the smoke and heat, our personnel located and rescued four kittens who were trapped inside the building.

“The kittens were taken to safety and handed over to the Benito Juárez Municipal Animal Protection Department, where they are being cared for and evaluated.

Firemen were called to the mechanic shop where a car was found in flames February 19, 2026.

“Additionally, two people were treated at the scene for nervous shock, in coordination with paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross Cancun Delegation and Cancún Civil Protection.

“This service reminds us that in every emergency, we protect not only property, but also lives… no matter how small.

A Cancun firemen holds the kittens found after the fire was out.

“Thanks to the rapid intervention and coordinated effort, four more lives have a second chance today. To Serve and Protect!,” they said in a statement.
