Cancun firemen cut driver free from metal wreckage along Puerto Morelos highway

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A serious three vehicle highway crash in the municipality of Puerto Morelos left one driver trapped Wednesday. Cancun police and city firemen responded to the report of the accident that involved a cargo truck, company van and public taxi from Playa del Carmen.

According to information obtained, the driver of the taxi slammed into a van that was parked along the highway. The van was parked with his insurance adjuster after colliding with a cargo truck.

The multi-vehicle crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Emergency personnel, including Cancun firemen, were at the Puerto Morelos highway scene cutting the trapped taxi driver out of the cab.

The Playa del Carmen taxi passenger, 29-year-old Luciana “N” of Argentine nationality, suffered injuries along with the 36-year-old driver Jorge “R”. The destroyed cab, which was heading toward Cancun, was found facing the opposite direction along a section of Puerto Morelos highway near a theme park.

Late night motorists stopped to help the injured while they waited for the nearest emergency services to arrive. Ambulances arrived to transport both taxi occupants to hospital.

Francisco López “M”, the 24-year-old driver of the white van was unharmed. According to his testimony, his vehicle was parked when it was hit by the taxi in the rear. The driver of a cargo truck, Didier “P”, who collided with the van earlier, was also unharmed.

In a posting, Policías Cancun reported that “a vehicle accident with injuries on the road was reported in the early hours of Wednesday morning on 307 Cancún – Puerto Morelos height of the xochimilco park.

“Preliminary information indicates that the eco-taxi 1079 from Playa del Carmen crashed into a parked van, which was next to its adjuster after having previously collided with a tourist van.

“The driver of the taxi was trapped after the crash, requiring the intervention of the Cancun Heroic Fire Department for his rescue.”

National Guard Highways directed early morning traffic while assisting firemen in the cleanup of debris and fluids.
