Cancun firemen called to free trapped passenger in New Year’s Eve crash

Cancun, Q.R. — A group of Cancun firemen spent the eve of New Year’s extracting a trapped person from inside a wrecked car. They were requested at the scene of the crash where a private car had hit a public bus.

The accident happened late Wednesday night along Kukulcán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone. According to available information, the driver of the car slammed into the back rear driver’s side of a city bus, lodging the front of his vehicle underneath.

All those from inside were able to get on their own and were found without major injuries, however, the angle of the collision left a front seat passenger trapped. Firemen were called in to cut her out of the car.

She was freed and trasnported to Cancun hospital for medical treatment.

In a statement, the Cancun Fire Department reported “on the night of December 31st, the Cancun Fire Department responded to a traffic accident in the Hotel Zone, where injuries and one person trapped were reported.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found a collision between a bus and a private vehicle. Emergency response and rescue protocols were immediately activated, providing assistance to the injured individuals who were already outside the vehicle.

“One of the occupants remained trapped inside, so rescue maneuvers were carried out using hydraulic equipment to safely free her. After her extraction, she was handed over to medical services, who transported her to the hospital for evaluation.

Most of the car was left wedged under the back of the bus. December 31, 2025.

“The coordinated work between the Fire Department, medical services, traffic police, and security authorities allowed for a rapid and effective response, always prioritizing the life and safety of individuals. During this time of year, we urge the public to drive with caution, respect speed limits and avoid distractions.”
