Cancun Q.R. — Sixteen people were treated for injuries in a four vehicle accident Sunday in central Cancun. City firemen were part of the first responders after motorists reported the accident early Sunday morning.
According to official tallies, five people were transferred to city hospitals for medical treatment, while another 11 were treated on site. Those 11, according to the Cancun Fire Department, did not require hospital transfers.
The accident between a bus, two city combis and a private car happened around 8:30 a.m. when the combis and car were rear-ended at a red light. According to preliminary information, the three vehicles were waiting for the traffic light to change on José López Portillo Avenue when they were struck from behind by the bus.
There are claims the driver of the bus was speeding and unable to stop before hitting the first stopped combi. The chain reaction threw that combi into another vehicle in front of it that then hit a car.

According to official reports, 16 people were treated in the multiple vehicle accident.
“This morning, Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to an emergency call for a vehicle accident in front of Superblock 62, at the intersection of Av. Portillo and Uxmal,” Bomberos Cancun reported Sunday afternoon.

“Four vehicles were found involved at the scene: a personnel transport bus, two public service vans with passengers and a private vehicle. As a result of the incident, five people were transported to different hospitals in the city for medical attention.
“In addition, 11 more people were evaluated on-site, but did not require transfer. Our team provided immediate pre-hospital care and carried out cleanup work in the area to prevent further incidents and restore road safety.

“We urge all drivers to drive with caution, obey speed limits and remain alert at all times. Your safety and that of others depends on your actions behind the wheel.”
