Cancun driver who agreed to give woman ride ends up kidnapping victim

Cancun, Q.R. — Five people have been taken into custody for the kidnapping of a Cancun man who agreed to give a stranded woman a ride. The group were arrested after forcing the man to provide his banking information before letting him go.

They used his online banking information and physical bank cards to withdraw cash from the business account. Once freed, the man filed a complaint against them that lead to their arrests.

Members of the Investigative Police executed an arrest warrant against all five Tuesday. The four women and one man are facing kidnapping charges.

Police have identified tham as Linda Yesenia “N”, María Guadalupe “N”, Jaqueline “N”, María Leticia “N” and Esteban “N”. According to the police statement, the businessman was driving on José López Portillo Avenue on April 7 when a woman approached his vehicle and asked for a ride to the city center.

During the ride, the woman asked him to stop in front of a business. When they did, two men got into the vehicle. One of them was carrying a gun and the other a baton which he used to physically assault the victim.

The man was ordered to continue driving along the same avenue to a residence. Upon arrival, all three men got out of the vehicle along with the victim.

“Linda Yesenia “N”, María Guadalupe “N”, Jaqueline “N”, María Leticia “N”, and Esteban “N” emerged from a room at the location and robbed the victim of his belongings, including car keys, two cell phones, a wallet and three bank cards,” the report detailed.

“The assailants also demanded the cell phone passwords, intending to send messages and audio recordings to the victim’s contacts requesting money, as well as the PINs for the bank cards.

“The victim provided this information which the perpetrators used to withdraw 19,000 pesos and steal 22,000 pesos in cash from the victim’s business. Hours later, they allowed the victim to leave. Following the report of the crime, the four women and the man were located and arrested.”

They are currently being held in the Penitentiary Center of Benito Juárez. Police did not say if the victim was random or targeted.
