“Isla Mujeres hosted the State Vertical Rescue Exam to obtain certification from the Cancun International Rescue Brigade (BRIC). It is worth noting that the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Isla Mujeres has four BRIC-certified personnel and another is close to obtaining this distinction.

“It also has three paramedics. With this, the Municipal Government, headed by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, reaffirms its commitment to having trained personnel for any emergency.

“To belong to the BRIC, those interested must have knowledge of jungle rescue, first aid, radio communications, vertical rescue, high-mountain rescue, and collapsed structures.

“Due to its difficult geography for rescues, the Punta Sur Sculpture Park was chosen as the site for the Vertical Rescue exam of the course currently being taught to BRIC applicants, which is taught by rescuer Benjamín Heredia, Director of Operations,” Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres said.
