Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — The Andrés Quintana Roo taxi drivers’ union has confirmed the death of one of their colleagues. The body of José Luis Corral Morales, who was reported abducted over the weekend, has been found.
His body was located Tuesday along the highway outside the town of Kantunilkín in the neighboring municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas. He had been reported missing. According to a social media post by his family, he was abducted October 27 in SM 59 in Cancún, allegedly at the hands of members of organized crime members.
The taxi drivers’ union published a statement confirming the discovery.
“We inform you that on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, our administrative offices will remain closed to the general public as a sign of mourning.
“We call on the entire taxi community to participate in a peaceful march on Thursday, October 31 of this year to demand justice for the death of our colleague and security for the entire union,” the statement said.
José Luis Corral Morales was an advisor and campaign coordinator for the Cancun Taxi Drivers Union. Initial investigations indicate that his body was abandoned in an isolated area of the highway. Police have not commented on the incident.
