Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Several central areas in the municipality of Tulum woke up to temperatures barely above 10C (50F). Those chilly Thursday morning temperatures are forecast to stick around for a few more days due to another mass of polar air.
Large blasts of cold air from the U.S. has been affecting the Yucatan Peninsula for most of the week causing nighttime temperatures to drop to the mid-teens. The ongoing cold is being attributed to back-to-back (to-back) cold fronts.
On Monday, cold front 27 started to enter the region fully arriving as a large mass of polar air Tuesday. That cold air caused thermomotors around the state to dip to mid-teen temperatures for the early morning.

Nights remained cold as that mass of polar air was replaced late Wednesday by cold front 28, leaving some areas in central Tulum to wake up to 10C, the coldest in the state.
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) says that mass of polar air is continuing to keep the peninsula cold as it slowly moves off only to be replaced by north winds from incoming cold front 29.
On Friday, meteorologists warned of another bout of low temperatures with the arrival of more polar air with cold front 29.
North winds from the approaching mass of polar air will chill the region ahead of its arrival, keeping local nightime temperatures in the mid-teens.

State Civil Protection reported that polar air from the approaching system will result in chilly nighttime temperatures with weekend wakeup temperatures between 15C (59) and 20C (68F) for all of Quintana Roo.
Mexico’s Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) has forecast the full arrival of cold front 29 for Monday. Rain showers are possible Saturday and Sunday as the cold air moves in. Cold front 29 will be the third polar air mass to hit the Yucatan Peninsula in a week.
