Cancun, Q.R. — Mayor Ana Paty Peralta says the city is installing four speed limit checkpoints around Cancun. The point is to raise driver awareness about speed limits and reduce accidents.
The checkpoints will have officers with automatic cameras at Retorno St. John’s, Retorno de Residencial Campestre, Universidad La Salle and Ocean Leader. The speed limit program is being led by the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic (SMSCyT) of Benito Juárez in coordination with National Guard.
The city recently implemented the Carousel Operation on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard where police cars lead traffic at the speed limit. Peralta says the operational deployment, which had three staggered schedules, will now be carried out continuously from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with six patrols distributed in strategic groups.
The Carousel consists of members of the Citizen Security Police, Cancun Transit and National Guard. The units will operate in two groups of three patrol cars, traveling in a circular motion at a speed limit of no more than 70 km/h, the speed limit established in the area, from Contoy Avenue to the Airport Interchange.

As part of the immediate response, four speed checkpoints will be set up with the Citizen Security and Municipal Traffic units on Blvd. Colosio. Jaime Padilla Barrientos, Secretary of Citizen Security in Cancun, explained that the operation is part of measures ordered by the mayor to ensure road safety and improve mobility in the area.
SMSCyT urges drivers to respect speed limits, road signs and anticipate exits to maintain safer and more orderly mobility for the benefit of all.
