Authorities streamline immigration procedures and reduce baggage wait times at Cancun International

Cancun, Q.R. — The government of Quintana Roo says they have streamlined tourist immigration procedures at the Cancun airport. They also say they have reduced baggage wait times.

Governor Mara Lezama says the improvements have been made with the goal of strengthening the operation and competitiveness of the Cancun International Airport.

Both state and federal authorities met Tuesday to discuss improving tourist experiences at the Cancun airport February 17, 2026.

State and federal authorities met in Cancun Tuesday with representatives of the airport. Governor Lezama lead the meeting that was attended by the Southeast Airport Group (ASUR), the company that manages the airport, as well as federal authorities.

During the meeting, several points of agreement were established aimed at improving the passenger experience and strengthening inter-institutional coordination.

Those points included seeking and implementing more competitive rates in ground transportation to and from the airport through a scheme that allows greater accessibility for tourists and local users.

Officials also worked to increase and streamline transportation operations at terminals to ensure order, legality and safety in the service. They discussed implementing schemes to reduce baggage delivery times, including reviewing the working and salary conditions of the personnel involved.

Governor Lezama said reducing baggage wait times at the Cancun airport was also addressed during the Tuesday meeting.

They also talked about special monitoring operations prior to the World Cup with a view of reinforcing logistical and service capacity in anticipation of the projected increase in visitors.

On the topic of migration, federal INM representative Andrés Vidal and Carlos Manuel Bandala González, head of the INM for Quintana Roo, announced an increase in INM immigration filters which will expedite the flow of international passengers.

Governor Lezama emphasized the close coordination with immigration and suggested maintaining this coordination to streamline processes and provide a good tourist experience. She added that federal support is key to strengthening immigration operations.

Lezama said the goal of the meeting was to consolidate coordinated work between the various levels of government and the private sector to maintain Cancun as one of the most important tourist destinations in the country.
