Authorities say second sweep of Fifth Avenue to remove illegal vendors and sellers harassing tourists

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal personnel launched a second clean up operation over the weekend to remove unauthorized kiosks from Fifth Avenue. Playa del Carmen inspectors were part of the early morning team Sunday who participated in the second removal sweep.

Four truck loads of illegal furniture, kiosks and ads were removed from Fifth Avenue.

Four cargo truckloads hauled away the illegal signs, furniture and kiosks seized by the city. Municipal Secretary of Citizen Security, Raúl Tassinari González, said the operations are being done to maintain order on Quinta Avenida.

He clarified that street trading is prohibited in this area of Playa del Carmen. During the second sweep, authorities covered Constituyentes Avenue to the CTM. Tassinari González said the operations are the result of business complaints about illegal vendors and sellers harassing tourists.

Illegal vendor kiosk were removed from Fifth Avenue in a second operation.

Tassinari González said the operations are being carried out to remove unauthorized vendors ahead of the anticipated high tourist season to ensure visitors have a pleasant shopping experience. It was the second operation in as many weeks. On October 25, the city carried out the first sweep, removing three cargo trucks of illegal kiosks.
