Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Fifth Avenue was cleaned of its excessive semi-permanent vendor stalls early Thursday morning. Truckloads of stalls and advertising belonging to informal street vendors were removed from the city’s tourist area by inspectors.

Municipal authorities in Playa del Carmen carried out the operation to remove street vendors from Fifth Avenue, the main tourist area of the city. The removal operation was carried out after calls from ligament businesses to remove them.
Antón Bojorquez Mackay, the Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, participated in the early morning removal that began around 4:00 a.m. He says nine police officers and eight National Guard were on hand while 18 inspectors from various departments loaded up the material.

The sweep was made along Fifth Avenue from Juarez Avenue to Constituyentes. Crews finished around 6:30 a.m., filling three cargo trucks. He says it is important to maintain order in the tourist area, which is key to the image of Playa del Carmen.
