Edgar Aguilar Rico, the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum, reported that from August 4 to 10, 41 people were arrested for administrative offenses and six more for “other” crimes thanks to joint operations with the State Attorney General’s Office.

Some of the August arrests included that of 20 year old Moisés Alejandro “G” from Michoacán, who was found in possession of a variety of hard narcotics for sale.

Two people from Argentina, María del Rosario E. and Manuel Agustín, were arrested for drug possession as well as connection to the extortion of a local bar. According to Aguilar Rico, the pair allegedly demanded monthly payments in exchange for allowing the sale of drug from the bar. Aguilar Rico said they are believed to have tossed a Molotov cocktail at the bar, starting a fire in order to intimidate the owner.

During the press conference, he also reported five institutional operations were carried out with the participation of the Navy, Army and National Guard as well as the State and Municipal Police.
