Authorities relocate injured sea turtle found stranded in sand

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Authorities from the government of Isla Mujeres have relocated a sea turtle found injured Tuesday. The turtle was found stranded on a beach of Isla Blanca with injuries to the right side of its body.

The adult turtle was rescued “thanks to the prompt intervention of the staff of the Directorate of Ecology and Environment and the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection,” Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde said.

According to Ricalde, the white sea turtle was reported stranded on the sand at Isla Blanca early Tuesday. After a visit from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), the turtle was relocated after being found with a head and fin injury likely caused by a boat propeller.
