Authorities announce start of 3.6 million peso roadwork project for Bacalar

Bacalar, Q.R. — More than 3.6 million will be spent to repair 8,000 square meters of badly damaged streets in Bacalar. The project, which began Tuesday, will cover six areas of the town.

The repaving will “substantially improve the urban image, facilitate mobility and improve people’s lives,” Governor Mara Lezama said Tuesday at the ceremony where she was accompanied by Bacalar Mayor José Alfredo Contreras Méndez.

Work was started on 11th Avenue and 12th Street in the Serapio Flota Mass neighborhood. “The project is addressing the areas most in need and the public’s call for improvements,” she said.

“Listening to the people and delivering for them is at the heart of the administration. Having streets in good condition is a matter of social justice for the families who live here and for the thousands of visitors who come daily to enjoy this paradise,” Governor Lezama explained.

The goal is an estimated 8,000 square meters and includes areas in Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Benito Juárez, Luis Donaldo Colosio, 5 de Mayo, Mario Villanueva Madrid, Gonzalo Guerrero and parts of downtown.

“We are going to rehabilitate more than 8,000 square meters in the areas that need it most, because it is the people’s right to have decent streets, and that is precisely what the people have asked of us,” said Mayor Contreras Méndez.
