Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cold front 19 is approaching the Yucatan Peninsula and is expected to affect the region by Monday. Most of the peninsula will feel the effects of the cold air as it enters the region starting Monday.
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) says a cool down is expected from the north winds accompanying the front. Heavy rain and strong winds are also likely.
The SMN (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) says during Sunday, the approacing cold front (number 19) will enter the northern and northeastern border of Mexico.
It will interact with an upper-level trough and the subtropical jet stream causing isolated heavy rains in parts of Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla and Veracruz, as well as showers in Nuevo León.

The cold front, being driven by a polar air mass, will move rapidly across the Gulf of Mexico coast and interact with a low-pressure trough in southeastern Mexico Monday.
This will create isolated heavy rains in parts of Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco and very heavy rains in parts of Hidalgo, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
The polar air mass driving the front will maintain the drop in temperatures as well as a “Norte” event with gusts of 80 to 100 km/h. In addition, waves of 1 to 2 meters in height will be likely along the coasts of Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatan. Due to the angel of the arriving cold air, those high waves are not yet forecast for the coast of Quintana Roo.
