Mexico City, Mexico — The vote to approve former Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaquin as Ambassador to Canada has been put on hold for a second time. The Chamber of Senators voted earlier this week on the proposal made by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
During the vote, 18 were in favor of and 16 against with one abstention, failing to reach a qualifying majority. From that, the proposal was sent to the Second Working Committee.
The proposals for the appointments of Enrique Rojo Stein as Ambassador of Mexico in the Republic of Finland and Jesusa Rodríguez as Ambassador of Mexico in the Republic of Panama, were also referred to the Second Working Committee.
The appointments were postponed by federal legislators who considered them not a priority for the nation.
In September, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the proposal for the now-former Quintana Roo Governor, Carlos Joaquín, to become Mexico’s Ambassador to Canada.
