Mexico City, Mexico — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has had his first meeting with President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. He referred to the two hour meeting as being “very interesting and emotional.”
The pair met at the National Palace where they spoke for more than two hours. After the meeting, AMLO said “we are friends and together with millions of colleagues we began the Fourth Transformation for the good of our beloved people.”
In a press conference afterward Sheinbaum said the President spoke of the importance of staying close to the people during the continuity of the change movement that she will lead starting October 1.
Sheinbaum announced that the formal transition process will begin next week after naming the members of the Legal Cabinet who will accompany her in the next federal administration.
She confirmed that she will accompany President López Obrador during work tours around the country with the aim of supervising projects and government actions.
She reported on her objective of enriching the package of 20 reforms to the Constitution – which the President sent to the Legislative Branch on February 5 – with social programs that he proposed as part of his campaign for the Presidency.
Sheinbaum said the constitutional reforms to the laws of the ISSSTE and the Judiciary were considered priorities to be discussed with the current legislation and between the different sectors of public life.
“I have always said it: it is an honor to be with Andrés Manuel López Obrador and we are part of this great project to transform our country. It is the first meeting of many others that we will surely have,” Sheinbaum said.
