Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A private American boat was completely consumed by an early morning fire Thursday. Firemen and Civil Protection personnel arrived at the Villa Vera Marina of Isla Mujeres to extinguish the burning vessel.
The private American boat was moored between others when it caught fire around 4:30 a.m. At least two of the surrounding vessels were damaged by the heat and flames.
Isla Mujeres Secretary General Hugo Sánchez reported that two people were treated for mild smoke inhalation, but no reports of injuries.
Isla Mujeres firemen responding to the emergency 9-1-1 report of the burning boat spent more than an hour at the scene controlling flames to prevent spreading.
The entire boat burned and sank. It is not yet known how or why the boat caught fire. Civil Protection personnel are part of the investigating team looking into the cause of the fire.
