The extension of pipes are being installed to improve sanitation services. Aguakan is currently in the second phase of the sewerage modernization project in Puerto Morelos.
Aguakan says the project involves laying more than 2,500 linear meters of 20” and 6-inch pipe using the open trench method. The pipe is being laid from the Zetina Gazca Wastewater Pumping Station to the Villas Morelos IV Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“This project will optimize the flow of wastewater to the treatment plants where it will be properly treated and reinjected into the subsoil. The injection is at a depth of more than 100 meters under criteria of environmental responsibility and sustainability,” the company reported.
Likewise, the sewer works continue gradually, progressing on Timón Avenue, Section 2, during January, February and March of 2026. This project will end on Timón Avenue with Section 3 during the month of April 2026.
“This project utilizes the open trench method, divided into six strategic stages, to minimize disruption to roadways. The work is being carried out in an orderly manner and with detailed planning in direct coordination with the Puerto Morelos City Council and the Municipal Transit Authority,” they said.
“This project is key for Puerto Morelos as it allows us to expand the capacity of the sewer system and meet the needs of the growing population. Through phased planning and coordination with municipal authorities, we aim to offer a more reliable and sustainable service, maintaining direct communication with local residents to provide better support during the construction,” stated Jorge Rosas Ortega, Aguakan’s Works Coordinator in Playa del Carmen.

The project cost is around 13 million pesos benefiting more than 1,500 homes.
