Aguakan starts second phase of four in Cancun Hotel Zone sanitary drainage expansion project

Cancun, Q.R. — Aguakan says they are making progress in their Cancun Hotel Zone sanitary drainage expansion project. The ongoing project, which is now in its second phase, includes the replacement of old pipes as well as the installation of new ones.

New lines are being laid while the ground is open to expand coverage throughout the hotel zone. The company reported in the first phase, 108 pipes, each 6 meters long, were installed in the first section, representing a total progress of 650 meters of piping.

The second phase, which started this week, involves laying an additional 600 meters of pipe with an estimated completion time of 50 days. In this second phase, work will proceed simultaneously with two parallel projects fronts on the same lane until both fronts are completed.

Work will begin at kilometer 21+979 and extend to kilometer 22+579. This work will allow for a cumulative total of 1,250 meters of installed pipe to be in place before the start of the third scheduled phase.

The company says the project is in coordination with municipal authorities and the Quintana Roo Tourism Development Trust (FOATQROO), which will see the expansion of sanitary drainage coverage in the Cancun Hotel Zone, one of the areas with the highest tourist activity in the state.

“This project involves an investment of over 29 million pesos, with the aim of strengthening the health infrastructure and contributing to the sustainable development of the destination,” Aguakan said.

The roadwork is being carried out in close coordination with the Municipal Transit Department. Aguakan says they have installed the signage around the construction site in addition to implementing safety measures and temporary detours to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The entire process is being conducted in accordance with safety guidelines and recommendations from FOATQROO, prioritizing the clearing of roadways and the early dissemination of alternate routes to minimize disruptions.

Roadwork is being done in cooridination with Cancun Transit January 19, 2026.

The total construction period runs from October 2025 to September 2026 and has been divided into four sections to maintain an orderly process, minimizing disruptions to traffic and protecting the tourist environment.
