Aggressive Cancun combi driver banned from providing public services

Cancun, Q.R. — The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) has banned a city combi driver for aggression. The man was captured on video Friday in a heated altercation with a taxi driver that became physical.

The aggressive combi driver throws the taxi driver to the ground during their altercation.

During the altercation, the combi driver grabs the driver of the taxi and throws him to the ground in a central median. The Cancun taxi driver suffers from leg length discrepancy. The incident was videoed at the intersection of Tulum Avenue and Francisco I. Madero in Cancun.

It is not known what the two men were arguing about, however, after seeing the video, Imoveqroo authorities have requested his permanent removal from being able to hold a public driving job in the state.

The organization reported that it has requested the union permanently expel the driver, a measure that disqualifies him from working for any of the unionized transport services. Several nonunionized transportation companies have also been notified by Imoveqroo to ensure the man is not hired.

“Public transportation in Quintana Roo must be a safe, inclusive, and violence-free space. The instructions are clear: zero tolerance for any form of aggression or behavior that endangers the well-being of citizens ,” the Institute stated.

The expulsion will prevent him from being able to work for the State Land Transportation Service, taxis, intercity transportation, Maya Caribe, Secciones, Isla, Turicun and Franja.

The vehicle involved was seized and will remain impounded for seven days. The Cancun combi driver has also been fined. According to the agency, the measure is part of the “zero tolerance for violence” policy on public transportation.
