Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — A search and rescue team located an elderly woman missing in the Lázaro Cárdenas jungle. The woman, Abigail “H”, set out to collect firewood Wednesday and was reported missing when she failed to return.

According to municipal authorities, she was missing approximately 28 hours before finally being located. A team from Cancun Civil Protection along with personnel from the Cancun fire department, used dogs to help in the search.
The woman went missing from the community of La Esperanza Tuesday. She was located Wednesday. According to the search team, the 65 year old woman suffers from Alzheimer’s.
Abigail “H” was found around three kilometers from her town’s road and transferred to hospital by ambulance for treatment for dehydration.
“In response to a request from the municipal government of Lázaro Cárdenas, personnel from the Civil Protection Directorate and the Heroic Fire Department, both from Benito Juárez, participated with canine teams and support personnel to locate a lost elderly person in the jungle area of the La Esperanza community in that town.
“The missing person suffers from Alzheimer’s. After approximately 28 hours of searching, the woman was found approximately three kilometers from the town’s road and showed signs of dehydration with no other apparent complications.

“The Fire Department sent four canine pairs, in addition to four rescuers, while Civil Protection assigned four officers and a canine who, during the emergency, made a difference by demonstrating their investigative and location skills.
“With these actions, the Benito Juárez City Council extends a hand to neighboring municipalities to work together as a team for the well-being of the people,” Cancun City Hall said in a statement.
