Guadalajara, Jalisco — A woman heading to California on a flight out of Guadalajara has been detained. The woman was arrested by National Guard after they located the equivalent of nearly 3 million pesos in cash.
An inspection of her baggage revealed over $150,000 USD, “equivalent to approximately 2.9 million pesos, without declaring them to the corresponding authority,” National Guard said in a statement.
The inspection and subsequent arrested took place at Guadalajara International Airport where members of the National Guard were conducting random inspections of passengers who were about to board their flights.
In the baggage screening area, National Guard made contact with a passenger who intended to travel to the state of California, United States.
“Upon searching her backpack, they found bundles of foreign currency bills in the amount of $152,823 dollars in cash, equivalent to approximately 2 million 960 thousand pesos.
“When asked if she had the declaration in the official form approved by the Tax Administration Service (SAT), she stated that she had not processed the document, thereby violating Article 9 of the Customs Law, for which reason she was detained.”
