Cancun, Q.R. — A comprehensive assessment is underway to identify the main infrastructure needs in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The assessment is being made through the Trust for the Strengthening of Tourism Activity in Quintana Roo (Fotaqroo).

According to Ricardo Archundia who heads the Trust, emphasis is being placed on paving, drainage and wastewater treatment. He says that georeferenced studies are now available to identify the areas with the highest priority for intervention.
At the moment, maintenance in the way of overgrown vegetation removal, patching, irrigation and road safety supervision is being done in coordination with the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) and Tourist Police.
He says extensive repaving is also on the agenda, however, they have to wait for the completion of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, which is currently 76 percent finished. While they wait, Archundia says a technical study is being conducted in conjunction with Aguakan to assess the current condition of the wastewater treatment plants, some of which are between 35 and 40 years old.
As part of the Fortalecimiento a la Actividad Turística en Quintana Roo (Foatqroo) project, a stormwater connection inspection program is planned to ensure that rainwater is properly channeled to the absorption wells.
