Progress report indicates Cancun’s Nichupté Vehicular Bridge 76 percent finished

Cancun, Q.R. — The Nichupté Vehicular Bridge is more than 76 percent complete. Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta made the progress report during a Wednesday tour. During her tour, she said she considerers the bridge one of the transformative projects of the Mexican Government in terms of infrastructure and urban mobility in the country.

Peralta said the bridge project, longed for by generations of Cancun residents for more than three decades, is now a tangible reality thanks to the efforts of Governor Mara Lezama, before former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and to the continued support of the project with the determined support of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

“This 8.8-kilometer bridge is one of the most important social justice initiatives in Cancun. It will permanently transform mobility by connecting Kukulcán Boulevard in the Hotel Zone with Bonampak Avenue in the city center,” said Ana Paty Peralta.

She explained that the project includes a bike path to promote sustainable mobility, a state-of-the-art lighting system, and panoramic views that will allow visitors to appreciate the region’s natural beauty.

“This bridge will significantly reduce travel times for thousands of citizens, improving their quality of life and ensuring more efficient and humane urban development,” she stated.

In addition to its impact on connectivity, the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge represents an economic and employment boost for the region. It is estimated that its construction has generated more than 8,150 direct jobs and up to 32,600 indirect jobs, boosting the local and regional economy.

The Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, which is 76 percent finished, will have a total length of 8.8 kilometers and two junctions. One at Colosio Boulevard and one at Kabah Avenue to provide motorists with two accesses.

The bridge will consist of three lanes of 3.3 meters each (one in each direction and one reversible) and have a total cross-section width of 14.9 meters.
