Mexico City, Mexico — U.S. President Donald Trump thanked his Mexican counterpart Claudia Sheinbaum for sharing details on the country’s public anti-drug campaigns. He made his intentions clear following a talk with her to copy what the Mexican government has promoted across the country.
“I spoke to the President of Mexico because we constantly complain about drugs coming into our country,” Trump said. “I told her, you’re not really a drug-consuming nation, and she said, no, we’re not.”
Trump said that Sheinbaum explained to him details of the anti-drug policy that the Mexican government has undertaken during her administration. After listening to the details, Trump announced that the U.S. will follow Mexico as an example.
“So many calls and I never learned anything from anyone. I never learned anything from anyone and I spoke to this woman and as soon as she said it (…) I said exactly! What a great idea!

“It was a very interesting conversation. We are going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising how bad drugs are so that children don’t take them. That they (drugs) eat away at your brain, they destroy your teeth, your skin, everything.
“I thanked her for that,” Trump said announcing “a big publicity campaign saying how bad it is, how bad drugs are.”

The talk happened between the two presidents during an investment summit in Miami where Trump referred to her “as a wonderful woman.” Trump said Wednesday that he will launch advertising campaigns for drug prevention in the United States following the example of Mexico.
