Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The municipality of Solidaridad is hoping to establish a collaboration agreement with the Maya Train to position itself as a mandatory stop. Solidaridad City Council are looking into branding the seaside city of Playa del Carmen with the Tren Maya next year.
Daniel Bellamy García, the Director of Promotional Tourism Marketing of Solidaridad, says the agreement could position the city as a brand thereby diversifying the tourist offer.
He says the goal is to have the PDC station become a mandatory stop.
“We want travelers on the Maya Train to make a mandatory stop in Playa del Carmen, promoting not only sun and beach tourism, but also new routes and tourist products that highlight the cultural, gastronomic and natural wealth of the municipality,” he explained.
He says ideally, the agreement would be made in early 2025 that would see the PDC station become a key point for the promotion of the destination. He says such an agreement would allow the municipality to take advantage of the visibility and reach of the Maya Train, positioning Playa del Carmen as a strategic destination within the routes of this project that connects various areas of southeastern Mexico.
The strategy is part of the municipal government’s efforts to attract new markets and diversify the experiences offered to visitors, consolidating Playa del Carmen as a comprehensive destination that goes beyond its beaches, promoting its identity as a vibrant and culturally rich city, he said.
Garcia says an agreement with the Maya Train promises to be a key tool to strengthen tourism promotion and encourage a greater flow of visitors, thus benefiting the local economy and the communities of the municipality.
