Cancun, Q.R. — Three Cancun taxi union members have been officially charged with three inside murders. On Saturday, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported on the official charges laid against the three men.
“The State Attorney General’s Office announces three people, the interim leader of the Union of Taxi Drivers Salomón “N”, alias “Mafer”, as well as two partners of that union, Óscar Antonio “N” and Jonathan Emmanuel “N”, have been charged for their probable participation in events possibly constituting the crime of qualified homicide.”
Salomón “N”, alias “Mafer” and Óscar Antonio “N” were charged for their alleged participation in the murder of a collaborator of the aforementioned union, who was deprived of his liberty on October 25 of this year. Days later, his body appeared in a green area on the Cancún-Mérida federal highway.
In a separate hearing, a judge ordered Jonathan Emmanuel “N” to trial for his possible involvement in the crime of aggravated homicide against two operators of the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Drivers Union in events that occurred on September 12 of this year, when they allegedly tortured the victims. After taking their lives, they abandoned their bodies in a dirt area.
During a raid of the taxi union office last week, police located drugs, ammo and a torture room inside the building.
The news of the charges were released on the same day a group of taxi drivers protested outside the court for the release of their leader “Mafer”. Dozens of Cancun taxi drivers protested with signs in hand claiming his innocence.
Police have not provided any information on why the three men were murdered. A fourth man, Juan Manuel “N”, was arrested separately last week also for his alleged involvement in the three Cancun taxi union murders.
