Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The first official disturbance of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season has been located off the southeast U.S. coast. The National Hurricane Centre (NOAA) out of Miami says currently, the system has a low chance of further development unless it stays offshore.

The disturbance was located early Monday morning. According to meteorologist Berg, the system was found off of the southeastern U.S. Coast. “The non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form near or offshore of the southeastern U.S. coast along a frontal boundary during the next couple of days.
“If the low remains offshore, it could gradually develop some subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week while moving northeastward at 10 to 15 mph,” the NOAA reported Monday.

At the moment, the system only has a 10 percent chance of further development, however, if it continues offshore, it could develop further into the Atlantic’s first named storm of the season.

If the system does develop into a named storm, it would be Andrea. In March, the NOAA recorded the development of a disturbance months out of season. That disturbance did not develop into a preseason storm.
