The state has spent the past several months revamping an old building for modern use. It was handed over to the FGE (Fiscalía General  Estado) Wednesday in an official inauguration.

“With the inauguration of these renovated facilities, with cutting-edge technology and being properly equipped, we are taking a step forward and settling the historical debts that prevented us from living in a State of Law, with peace and tranquility” said Governor Mara Lezama.

Lezama said the building that was handed over to the Attorney General’s Office, known as “La Ceiba”, was completely abandoned. It was initally built to house various government offices, but it was left unfinished and the city’s resources that were invested, were wasted.

During the inaguration, Governor Lezama said “we will not tolerate an iota of corruption. Those who commit crimes have to pay for them, so we will work to achieve lasting peace in Quintana Roo.

“Everyone should know that the time is over when they could come and commit crimes under the protection of many authorities. Those times are over here in Quintana Roo. Now will we be able to write the most beautiful pages in the history of this beautiful state and the most beautiful pages around the administration of justice,” she said.

“This strategic project in terms of security, which is at the level of what Benito Juárez and Quintana Roo deserve for a correct administration of justice,” she added.

Attorney General Raciel López Salazar said that receiving this finished building does not mean that its destiny has been fulfilled, “but rather it is just the beginning of the path that we build day by day for the transformation of your prosecutor’s office, which truly serves the people and seeks the justice that they so long for.

“There is no more impunity. We will not allow unscrupulous individuals to cause violence against our visitors and the inhabitants of our beautiful state,” he said.

Lezama said 60 million pesos was spent on the 4,800 square meter building. She reported 47 million came from resources from the Attorney General’s Office. The balance was spend on furniture and cutting-edge technology.
