Cancun, Q.R. — State authorities have closed a real estate development for potential environmental crimes. During an inspection, authorities found hectares of illegal clearing, a paved road and the start of a real estate project all without authorization.
The State Attorney General (FGE) reported Monday that in coordination with the Navy and the National Guard, they executed a search warrant. The inspection took place on a property outside Cancun in the Alfredo V. Bonfil ejido where a real estate project is being developed.

“During the execution of the court order, authorities detected the possible commission of acts allegedly constituting crimes against the environment,” the FGE said.
The warrant was derived from a complaint in which it was indicated that they were carrying out activities of clearing, deforestation and use of heavy machinery without having the corresponding authorization.
“The investigation involved members of the Investigative Police assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Wildlife and Urban Development, as well as personnel from the College of Biologists of the State of Quintana Roo, with the purpose of establishing the mechanics of the events and evaluating the magnitude of the possible environmental damage,” they added.
During the search, agents confirmed that part of the property was paved and showed signs of work related to a real estate development.
Initial investigations indicate that those responsible do not have municipal or state authorization to carry out the activities observed.

Furthermore, the property lacks the necessary municipal permits for the construction project, therefore, the property was secured and placed under the custody of the FGE while investigations continue to determine the corresponding responsibilities.
