Semi-submersible with 3 crew and 3.5 tons of cocaine seized off coast of Guerrero

Guerrero, Mexico — Navy personnel seized a semi-submersible vessel with three crew and 3.5 tons of cocaine off the coast of Guerrero. The vessel was discovered during a maritime operation Friday led by the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar).

Mexican Navy surface units participated in the weekend patrol that lead to the finding. They located and seized a semi-submersible or low-profile vessel with three crew members inside and 180 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 3.5 tons.

The illicit cargo and vessel were seized and the three from inside the vessel were arrested and handed over to the State Attorney of the Republic (FGR).

The operation was led by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) in coordination with the Attorney General (FGR), the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), National Guard (GN) and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

In a statement, Semar said the seizure of the drugs will “prevent them from reaching the hands of young people.” With this seizure, approximately 44.8 tons of cocaine has been seized at sea so far this administration.
