Riviera Maya Hotel Association says reactivation has started favorably

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM) announced that the reopening of Riviera Maya has started favorably with the operation of 19 hotels. The Asociación de Hoteles de la Riviera Maya (AHRM) announced that they anticipate reaching up to 25 percent occupancy for the upcoming summer months with the arrival of tourists from Mexico the United States and Canada.

A little over a week after the reopening of the Mexican Caribbean, Conrad Bergwerf, AHRM president, said that they continue to record a gradual increase in hotel activity, and notes that as more of the state is reactivated, visitors will increase.

“Although the occupation rate is low at the moment, of approximately 10 percent, the important thing is that we have already started to improve these figures,” he said adding that another 11 hotels have announced that in coming weeks, they too, will reopen.

Manuel Paredes, executive director of AHRM clarified that “open hotels do not have all their rooms in operation” due to the maximum capacity rate according to the traffic light color system. However, he did say that they will continue to gradually activate more and more rooms “according to demand until the entire hotel is operational.”

“We are sure that tourists will gradually gain confidence in traveling until a vaccine comes out,” said Bergwerf who estimated that they could reach an occupancy rate of 30 percent in the second half of the year, “as long as something does not happen worldwide that affects the destination.”

According to the association, establishments set to reopen include El Dorado, Thompson Beach House and Viva Wyndham Maya, which are expected to reopen July 1. A day later, the Vivanta Group is scheduled to reopen.
