Real estate company selling Puerto Morelos commercial lots without permits closed down

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A commercial real estate property has been closed for environmental and urban development crimes. On Tuesday, the FGE (State Attorney General) said the commercial project was shut down after a search.

The property was inspected by Wildlife and Urban Development April 14, 2026.

Authorities executed a search warrant for a property located on the cenote route highway of Puerto Morelos. The property was searched “for its probable involvement in acts possibly constituting crimes against the environment and environmental development.”

The State Attorney General’s Office reported that the complaint that led to the search of Palma Areca along Ruta de los Cenotes in Puerto Morelos was filed by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The initial investigations carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Wildlife and Urban Development indicate that the commercial lot project lacks the corresponding authorizations in environmental matters, land use and urban development.

Furthermore, the real estate development company promoted and publicized the sale of these lots without having the corresponding documentation, they said.

Personnel from the College of Biologists of the State of Quintana Roo also participated in this search in order to verify the existence of visible damage to the natural environment, such as removal of vegetation or modifications to the soil.

The property was secured and placed under the custody of the State Attorney General (FGE) while investigations continue to determine the corresponding responsibilities.
