Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police with riot gear arrived at a plot of land in south Playa del Carmen Friday to evict a group of squatters. Police from Citizen Security and the State Attorney General’s Office carried out the eviction on land owned by the state.

The eviction took place Friday morning in an area located behind the Balí residential subdivision of Playa del Carmen. The squatters were located on state-owned land that was supposedly sold to them.
Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) moved to the rear of the Bali subdivision to carry out the eviction by order of a judge on a property that was illegally sold by a private individual.
The police deployment began around 10:00 a.m. Personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (Geavig) were also part of the eviction squad due to the presence of families with minors.

By 10:40 a.m., police were set up and the eviction carried out. Some of the residents said they had acquired the land through a person they identified by name as Juan “P”.
This person was selling the plots and promising legalization of the property, however, on Friday, those people learned they had invested in an illegal sale of land and were squatting on state-owned property.

Police did not say how many people were living on the land. After the squatters were removed, seals from the State Attorney General’s Office were placed at the main gate to prevent entry.
