PDCs Alux “cave” restaurant shut over civil property dispute

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities who placed closure seals on the doors of a city restaurant say it is not crime related. Over the weekend, the Alux “cave” restaurant was shut down due to a legal dispute.

According to the FGE (State Attorney General) who placed the seals, the building is being fought over in a civil suit. The closure seals were placed on the building July 12 after a legal complaint for ownership was filed.

The dispute, according to the FGE (Fiscalía General Del Estado), is between private individuals. The clarification was made after local media speculated the restaurant had been closed due to criminal activity.

The Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement clarifying that “the proceedings are not related to criminal activity such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, or weapons possession” and that “it is exclusively a civil dispute over the recovery of the property.”

According to official information, the closure and subsequent seizure of the building is the result of a complaint filed by the property owner who claimed that the tenant refused to hand over the premises after the lease expired.
