Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police in Playa del Carmen have arrested a man and woman on drug and firearm offenses. The 48 year old American man and 30 year old Mexican woman were taken into custody Friday after patrolling officers in Villas del Carmen saw them handling what was believed to be narcotics.

When the pair noticed police, they fled. Corbin “N” and Nayeli “N” were intercepted by State Police on Rojizo Street and inspected. During the inspection, authorities found “several packages” of marijuana and one loaded gun. A second weapon, reported to be a replica handgun, was also seized.
In a statement, the SSC of Playa del Carmen said “the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat arrested two people for alleged drug crimes in the Villas del Carmen neighborhood.
“The incident occurred during a surveillance patrol on Zorzal Rojizo Street where municipal police observed a couple exchanging packages that looked like narcotics. As they attempted to flee, they were intercepted with the support of State Police officers.
During the inspection, several packages of dried green vegetables that looked like marijuana, a firearm with two cartridges and a replica firearm were seized. Corbin “N,” 48, originally from the United States and Nayeli “N,” 30, originally from Tabasco, were handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office for the corresponding legal proceedings.”

Possession of a firearm or ammunition without proper authorization by Mexican authorities is considered a federal firearms offense which carries a penalty of up to five years in Mexican prison.
