Cozumel, Q.R. — The island of Cozumel will play host to nearly 120,000 tourists into the first week of the New Year. The stampede of visitors are scheduled to arrive on cruise ships touring the Caribbean starting today.
From December 30 to January 5, 2025, Cozumel is expecting 119,938 tourists with the first day of the New Year, January 1, being the most busy. On January 1, six ships are scheduled to dock the island, arriving with 28,169 passengers at the Puerta Maya terminal.
Governor Mara Lezama has called the first week “historic” with the arrival of nearly 120,000 visitors on 34 ships. She says their arrival confirms Quintana Roo as the leader of the Mexican Caribbean in the arrival of transatlantic ships.
“These are the results of the New Era of Tourism and the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, which allows prosperity to be shared and reach all the homes of the people of Quintana Roo.
“Hence the importance of taking care of our destinations so that a greater number of tourists arrive and get to know the natural beauties and we continue to be a world reference in tourism,” she said.
Lezama pointed out that in addition to a “historic” start to the New Year with the arrival of cruise ship passengers, is also the record number of flights arriving across the state.
On December 28, a total of 765 flights were recorded in the state’s four international airports, making it the third busiest airport travel day of 2024.
