Campeche Sound, Campeche — Modern day pirates have reportedly assaulted a Pemex platform in the Sound of Campeche. The assault was reported to Pemex authorities Saturday after a group of pirates robbed and physically assaulted several employees.
Section 47 of the Oil Workers’ Union reported that two of the workers were seriously injured after being attacked by the group of pirates. The workers who were attacked were taken to the Pemex General Hospital in Campeche.

According to the oil platform workers, a group of pirates boarded the Zapp Delta platform of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) on February 14 and stayed on board until the 15th. While on board, the pirates stole valuables and physically assaulted several workers. Two of them were seriously injured, the oil workers’ union reported.
Victor Matias Hernandez Colunga, oil leader, and Jose Antonio Toledo Gonzalez , general secretary of the union, intervened to have the workers transferred to Ciudad del Carmen.
In a statement, the Union explained, “our colleagues who were threatened and robbed by “pirates” on the Zaap Delta platform are now in Ciudad del Carmen, thanks to the intervention and management of our Leader, Víctor Matías Hernández Colunga and our General Secretary, José Antonio Toledo González.

“At this time we inform you that they are undergoing medical check-ups and evaluations in the corresponding specialties. We are always grateful to our top Leader, Ricardo Aldana Prieto, for always giving us support in all circumstances,” Sindicato de Trabajadores Petroleros de la República Mexicana said.
The Pemex platform workers said a group of armed men boarded the Zaap Delta oil platform during the night of Friday, February 14 and took control of the facilities. The group of pirates stayed on the platform until early Saturday morning. The staff made calls for help during the attack, but received no response.

Once subdued, the oil workers were stripped of their belongings and were physically assaulted, according to the version released by the union. Details surrounding the possible nationality or identification of those who illegally boarded the platform has not been provided.
