Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán — Approximately 2.5 tons of cocaine has been seized at sea by the Mexican Navy. This latest seizure took place off the coast Michoacán near the city of Lázaro Cárdenas.
The operation was led by members of the Navy, in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), National Guard (GN) and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).
The Mexican Navy (Semar) reported that during maritime and aerial surveillance patrols, 87 packages containing approximately 2.5 tons of suspected cocaine was seized off the coast of Michoacán this week.
On Thursday, the Navy said “the shipment was sighted, and 47 packages weighing 1,354 kilograms of suspected cocaine were seized. Following this operation, an additional shipment of 40 packages weighing 1,196 kilograms of cocaine was located.”

With this seizure, approximately 51 tons of cocaine has been seized at sea during the current administration. “The drugs seized in this event represent an economic loss of more than 980 million pesos and prevented approximately five million doses from reaching the public,” the Navy reported.
“These actions are part of the maritime, aerial and land surveillance operations carried out by the Secretariat of the Navy in national waters to deter criminal activity and guarantee and maintain the rule of law in Mexican maritime zones
“The institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to working in a coordinated manner to prevent illicit substances from reaching the hands of young people.”
