Mexico’s Navy collects 1.3 tons of cocaine floating off coast

Guerrero, Mexico — Personnel from the Secretary of the Marina made a significant drug bust off the coast of Guerrero. On Tuesday, the Secretaría de Marina reported on the 1.3 ton seizure of cocaine from Mexican waters.

During maritime operations led by elements of the Ministry of the Navy (Semar) in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), they carried out the seizure of approximately 1.3 tons of suspected cocaine off the coast of Guerrero.

This action was carried out during maritime surveillance patrols aboard a Mexican Navy vessel where naval personnel spotted 68 black sack-like bundles tied together and floating. Each contained brick-like packages containing a white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine hydrochloride, weighing approximately 1.3 tons.

“The illicit cargo was transported by sea to the Eighth Naval Region dock and handed over to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for the purpose of compiling the corresponding investigation file,” they reported.
