Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has inaugurated the El Sauz II Combined Cycle Power Plant. She says the addition will benefit more than 4 million residents connected to the National Electric System (SEN)
She said during this administration, 29,000 MW of new capacity will be added to the SEN through an investment of $45 billion USD.
In Pedro Escobedo, Querétaro, President Sheinbaum inaugurated the El Sauz II “Josefa Ortiz Téllez Girón” Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCC) of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
The system will provide power for more than 4 million people with the supply of 269 megawatts (MW), which together with the CCC of Salamanca I, Guanajuato and Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosí, inaugurated this year, adds 1,677 MW to the National Electric System (SEN).

“Today we are launching this Sauz II Combined Cycle Plant named after Josefa Ortiz Téllez Girón.”
She announced that the next power plants will also bear the names of prominent women in Mexican history and of the CFE’s own female workers as an act of justice.
She recalled that during neoliberal governments there were attempts to privatize the CFE, and it was thanks to the Fourth Transformation that this institution was recovered as a Mexican state-owned company.
The accomplishment was made with two reforms at the beginning of the administration to guarantee that 54 percent of electricity is supplied by the CFE and 46 percent by private companies.
In addition to safeguarding energy sovereignty in case of natural disasters, which allowed the restoration of electricity in record time in five states of the country during the past rains of October.
Energy Secretary Luz Elena González Escobar reiterated that the primary objective is to guarantee that all Mexicans have access to sufficient, affordable and clean energy, fulfilling the constitutional mandate that the State must provide 54 percent of the country’s electricity generation through the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

She specified that 29,000 MW of new capacity will be added to the National Electric System (SEN) during this administration through a $45 billion USD investment.
The CEO of the CFE, Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, explained that the state of Querétaro registered a demand of 1,535 MW in 2025, while its installed capacity was only 723 MW.
Therefore, the new El Sauz II “Josefa Ortiz Téllez Girón” Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCP) with 269 MW, together with the Salamanca I CCP with 958 MW and the Villa de Reyes CCP with almost 450 MW, will contribute an additional 1,677 MW, thus guaranteeing the state’s demand.
Furthermore, the construction of the Salamanca II CCC, with a capacity of 483 MW, is planned, which will ensure supply and meet future demand growth in the Bajío region.

The governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, thanked the President for this project and recognized all the CFE personnel who supported the state during the past October rains to restore electricity in record time, while in other countries like the United States, it takes up to three months during a natural disaster.
