Mexico City, Mexico — More than 400 Chinese tour operators and companies attended Mexico’s first ever tourism fair in Beijing. The fair, organized by the Mexican Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, promoted Mexico as a vacation destination to China.

It was Mexico’s first tourism fair in China promoting seven of its states, the Tren Maya and the the Mundo Maya Group.
The first Mexican Tourism Fair in Beijing, China, held on September 25 and 26, concluded with great success. The event brought together representatives from Baja California, Chiapas, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacán and Nayarit.
The showcase also included the Maya Train and Grupo Mundo Maya, who showcased Mexico’s tourism, gastronomy and artistic wealth to travel agencies, specialized media, tourism companies and the general public.
The fair was a public diplomacy and tourism initiative organized by the Mexican Embassy in China, in coordination with the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and other strategic stakeholders.
Its objective was to showcase the richness of Mexico to all participants, as well as promote tourism and cultural flows between China and Mexico, attract investment and generate synergies that will lead to a closer relationship between the two nations.
In the presence of more than 400 tour operators and companies in the sector, as well as Zheng Hao, the Geneal Director of the Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, invited Chinese travelers to explore national attractions and participate in world-class events held in Mexico.
“The Mexico Tourism Fair in China represented an opportunity to diversify the tourism offering and consolidate the arrival of Chinese tourists, one of the markets with the highest average spending, and which this year entered the top 10 of nationalities visiting Mexico,” said Rodríguez Zamora.
Jesús Seade Kuri, the Mexican ambassador to China, highlighted the historic friendship between the two nations and extended an invitation to continue strengthening it through the mutual understanding that travel provides, taking advantage of direct flights between the two countries.

“The holding of this market will be a unique and historic opportunity to bring our people closer together and to continue sharing the wide range of tourism options offered by a Mexico that welcomes and hopes to attract more visitors from China. It will also serve to attract more Mexican travelers to Chinese destinations,” said Ambassador Seade.
On behalf of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, the Director General of Tourism Diplomacy and Connectivity, Patricia Angélica Quiles Martínez, expressed her gratitude for the work done by the delegation to bring this Tourism Tianguis to fruition, which will be a window to Mexico’s diverse natural, cultural, heritage, and gastronomic attractions.
“The tianguis-fair will also allow us to explore new and better ways to communicate the needs of Chinese tourists and, at the same time, opportunities in terms of investment, infrastructure development and connectivity,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
Over the course of two days, nine panels and seminars focused on the tourism offerings of the participating organizations were held. The importance of international events, such as the upcoming World Cup, was also discussed, and relevant information for Chinese travelers was provided.

As a result, 141 B2B business meetings were held between participating states, agencies and Chinese tour operators, as well as six meetings between three Mexican states and Chinese provinces that already have, or show interest, in establishing a tourism agreement.
The Mexican government, through coordinated efforts across various ministries, will continue promoting the internationalization of Plan Mexico, a multi-sector tool to boost investment in strategic national projects.
