Mexico extradites two nationals wanted in U.S. court

Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico has extradited two nationals wanted in U.S. courts. The two fugitives were handed over to U.S. federal marshals Sunday for their return to the U.S.

According to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), both men of Mexican nationality were wanted separately for criminal association, narcotics and arms trafficking charges.

José “L” was wanted by the Federal Court for the Southern District of California for criminal association and arms trafficking. Between 2014 and 2015, José “L” headed an organization that trafficked arms and ammunition from Mexico to the United States.

José “L” was arrested in February 2020 in Mexico City and held for extradition purposes.

In a separate case, Lorenzo “S” was returned to the U.S. to face charges in an Illinois court for heroin trafficking. According to the FGE, Lorenzo “S” was a member of a drug trafficking organization based in Mexico and was in charge of directing the transportation and distribution of narcotics to the United States.

He headed the drug trafficking organization between 2015 and 2016, transporting large quantities of heroin from the state of Texas to Chicago. Lorenzo “S” was wanted by the Federal Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Lorenzo “S” was arrested in October 2022 in Cuernavaca, Morelos. The Government of Mexico subsequently granted the extradition of the defendants to the Government of the United States.

The fugitives were handed over at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to the U.S. agents designated to transport them to that country.
