Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Tren Maya is being promoted to Europe through an alliance with German travel company Flix. Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Mexico, said the new alliance will strengthen the Tren Maya’s international projection.
“Thanks to this agreement, the Maya Train will begin its international marketing through Flix, expanding its presence in the European market,” she announced.
Flix operates in 44 countries, including Mexico, and has a global network connecting thousands of destinations, so this alliance strengthens the global visibility of the Maya Train and the Maya World.
The collaboration strengthens multimodal connectivity and travel planning by integrating one of the most important tourist mobility projects in southeastern Mexico through the use of Flix technology.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that travelers will be able to purchase tickets for the Maya Train through the Flix website, mobile application and physical points of sale, with trips available starting February 1, 2026.
This will expand its international visibility and facilitate the planning of trips to southeastern Mexico. She said the new alliance strengthens the country’s tourism competitiveness by integrating digital tools that simplify the travel experience and bring the destinations of the Mayan World closer to a greater number of international visitors.
“The addition of the Maya Train to Flix confirms that this project continues to consolidate its position in the European market, sparking the interest of travelers seeking cultural, sustainable, and connected experiences.

“It demonstrates how Mexico is innovating in its tourism promotion to bring the Mayan World closer to the world,” she said.
Óscar David Lozano Águila, the General Director of the Maya Train, defined this commercial integration as a key step for more international travelers to perceive southeastern Mexico as a nearby and accessible destination.
He emphasized that by showcasing the train’s offerings globally through Flix, the project adapts to the dynamics of international tourism, eliminating logistical barriers so that travelers from Europe and around the world can plan their trips with autonomy, confidence and security.

He also emphasized that this synergy, jointly promoted with the Ministry of Tourism, has a greater purpose. That purpose, he said, is to use technology to redistribute tourist flow toward local communities and promote community-based tourism.
Lozano Águila said currently, the Maya Train operates 20 daily commercial rail services to strategic destinations in southeastern Mexico.
During the winter holiday period, it transported 147,416 passengers, with a record 9,844 people in a single day. As of January 27, Tren Maya has transported 2.1 million passengers since the start of operations, confirming its growing popularity and consolidation as a tourist and regional transportation option.

Founded in Germany, Flix has a global network of more than 6,800 destinations, connecting central, northern, Gulf and Bajío regions of Mexico through five routes linking 12 national destinations.
