Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman was handcuffed near a central bus station Tuesday after kicking a police dog then running. The incident happened inside a central Playa del Carmen bus station when a police woman and her dog were on a patrol operation inside the station.
The woman, who is reported to have just gotten off a bus at platform 4, kicked police dog Enzo in the ribs as she was sniff-inspecting luggage. The dog offender then made a run for it, but was chased and captured by Enzo’s handler.
The woman, identified as 55-year-old Mónica N., had arrived at the Playa del Carmen bus station from Mexico City shortly before noon. She was detained and placed at the disposal of ministerial authorities for the dog assault. She is reported to have been a tourist.
Enzo was taken to a vet by her handler who reported a few bruised ribs from the attack. Enzo is a member of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).
Police did not say why the woman kicked the dog, nor is it known if she had any illegal items on her or in her luggage at the time of the incident.
