Mexican Navy seizes 4.2 tons of cocaine off the coast of Guerrero

Guerrero, Mexico — The Mexican Navy, acting as Coast Guard, has seized approximately 4.2 tons of cocaine. The drugs were seized by officials in two operations, both off the coast of Guerrero.

The 4.2 tons of cocaine was located in operations in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), National Guard (GN) and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

The narcotics were located during two different events off the coast of Guerrero.

The first operation was carried out during aerial surveillance patrols aboard a Panther helicopter in which naval personnel located a GoFast vessel with five people on board. The five men were transporting 38 sack-type packages containing white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine hydrochloride, with an approximate gross weight of 1.8 tons.

The five detainees, the alleged drugs and the vessel were seized and transported by sea to the Eighth Naval Region dock and handed over to the Attorney General’s Office for the purpose of compiling the corresponding investigation files.

In a second incident, naval personnel seized 64 sack-like bundles floating in the sea off the coast of Guerrero.. Each sack contained brick-like packages containing a white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine, weighing approximately 2.4 tons.

The cargo was seized and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office for the purpose of compiling the corresponding investigation files.

During the current administration, more than 36 tons of cocaine have been seized in maritime operations resulting in an estimated loss of 9 billion pesos to criminal groups.
