Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — In order to address a three-year pothole backlog, Solidaridad Mayor Estefanía Mercado, sent crews out Thursday morning. City workers from Public Services were out early in the morning patching holes that had been left from previous administrations.
“We are not a government that is looking for someone to blame, on the contrary, we are going to assume responsibility. That is why we are creating more brigades to reinforce the work of Public Services,” she said.
The mega pothole patching operation began during the dark hours of Thursday on Petempich Avenue. Repairs are being made a special material of cold asphalt, additives and polymers which can be laid regardless of humidity levels.
“We are a territorial government that shows its face. We are going to be constantly patching the potholes at dawn. It is not just a team, we are a multidisciplinary team in which we are going to involve absolutely all the ministries, but mainly Public Works and Public Services,” she explained.
Mercado is asking people to be patient, as the commitment is to end this problem that has worsened after a period of more than three months of intense rain. “We will catch up and maintain constant monitoring to address the roads after the rains,” she added.
The municipal Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, Doris Aké Sierra, said 30 tons of material will be used in the launch of the plan to fill the potholes, but another similar amount is about to arrive in order to reinforce the brigades throughout the city.
