Lowest since 2015: Intentional homicides around Mexico decrease 37 percent

Mexico City, Mexico — Mexican authorities say intentional homicides have decreased 37 percent from September 2024 to November 2025. It is the lowest figure since November of 2015.

President Claudia Sheinbaum says the average number of intentional homicides around Mexico have decreased from 86.9 victims per day in September 2024 to 54.7 in November 2025, representing 32 fewer homicides per day.

President Sheinbaum highlighted that thanks to the implementation of the National Security Strategy, a 37 percent reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides was achieved, placing November 2025 as the lowest month since 2015.

“The decrease in the number of daily homicides from September 2024 to November 2025 is 37 percent. That means that in September there were 86.9 homicides per day, and now we are at an average of 54.7 intentional homicides per day, a reduction of 37 percent.

“It is the lowest November since 2015, probably even lower, among other crimes that have also decreased.”

Marcela Figueroa Franco, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, reported that intentional homicides have been trending downward for the past 14 months.

The daily average per year has decreased by 35 percent compared to 2018, dropping from 100.5 to 65.1, making 2025 the year with the fewest homicides. She reported that from January 2025 to October 2025, seven states account for 51 percent of the total cases of intentional homicide in the country.

Those states include Guanajuato, 11 percent, Chihuahua, 7.6 percent, Baja California, 7.3 percent, Sinaloa, 7.1 percent, State of Mexico, 6.5 percent, Guerrero, 5.7 percent and Michoacán with 5.5 percent.

She explained that there is a downward trend in the daily average of high-impact crimes with a 47 percent reduction compared to 2018, the lowest level recorded in the last eight years.

On a monthly basis, there has been a 25 percent decrease.

Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection for the Government of Mexico, reported that from October 1, 2024, to November 30, 2025, 38,773 people were arrested for high-impact crimes, 20,169 firearms were seized, 311 tons of drugs were confiscated.

Of those, more than 4 million fentanyl pills and 1,760 clandestine laboratories and concentration areas were dismantled.

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez reported that as part of the “Addressing the Root Causes” initiative, 3,069,448 people in 15 states and 77 municipalities received assistance in one year.

Through the “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” program, from October 1st to the present, 8,700 firearms have been voluntarily exchanged: 2,519 long guns and 5,099 handguns, as well as 1,093 grenades. In addition, 7,296 toy weapons have been exchanged for educational toys.
